Lyme Disease - Functional Medicine For Families & Gynecology

Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is one of many naturally occurring diseases that are transmitted by the bite of ticks that carry the Borrelia type of bacteria. When a tick bites and latches on the infected tick releases the bacteria into the host and the disease spreads throughout the body. Victims of Lyme disease are most commonly those individuals who spend time outdoors, live in wooded mountain areas, or who do a lot of hiking and camping in undeveloped areas.

Early Signs of Lyme Disease

  • Rash – sometimes shaped like a bull’s eye
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle and Joint Aches
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes

If you think you may have contracted Lyme disease, especially if you notice a bull’s eye rash or if you suddenly develop knee pain and swelling without previous injury or arthritis you should contact your doctor. Delaying treatment can result in more serious neurological symptoms that can be difficult to cure.
